Make a Difference (MAD)

About: Currently 70 youth and their families require direct financial assistance for basic living and MAD has been helping them with a need based stipend for the same. MAD introduced the pilot Community home in Cochin to support youth as part of the Aftercare program. This is where youth who do not have a family of their own or can’t go back to them, live together making a self sustainable community together. The cost of running the community home is right now borne by MAD until after a few years this becomes a self sustained chapter running on its own. The Community Home in Cochin is a temporary stay option for youth who have no place to go during the crisis. Internet and technology infrastructure for 1:5 ratio for children living in shelter homes will ensure the lockdown does not affect the emotional, life skills, transitional and educational needs of the children during this period. 3500 children will benefit from this immediately as well as in the long term. MAD has its reach in 23 Indian cities including- Chandigarh, Dehradun, Lucknow, Kolkata, Delhi, Ahemdabad, Gwalior, Bhopal, Nagpur, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Vizag, Guntur, Vijaywada, Mangalore, Bangalore, Chennai, Vellore, Coimbatore, Mysore, Cochin and Trivandrum

CRY

About: CRY has created a resilience & recovery plan for underprivileged children that focuses on their health, nutrition, education and safety. The closure of government mechanisms like primary healthcare centres and the school midday meal scheme has severely affected children’s health. They’re unable to get proper nutrition, timely immunization or proper healthcare. Children are experiencing an unexpected gap in their schooling that has thrown their academic year out of focus. Furthermore during any disaster, children’s vulnerability to abuse and exploitation increases and it’s important to ensure their safety. Your donation will help CRY focus on: Ensuring regular vaccinations to avoid susceptibility to other deadly diseases, providing timely care to lactating and pregnant mothers, addressing malnutrition to reduce infant/child mortality, ensuring awareness around menstrual hygiene, education, ensuring children don’t drop out and get stuck in the cycle of poverty, addressing the significant psychological distress they may be dealing with, ensuring awareness around menstrual hygiene, safety & Protection, rehabilitating children who’ve experienced separation from their families during the lockdown, addressing the needs of children who are at risk of suffering neglect at the hands of their caregivers, identifying and handling cases of children being forced into child labour or pushed to become child brides to reduce the financial pressure on the family, strengthening child protection mechanisms at the village as well as district levels.
